Still in honor of Labor day, today’s post includes tips for creating a FAB home office! After all, if we have to “labor” why not make our spaces as beautiful as they are functional, right?! (And yes, Maria Killiam’s new office space from my Monday blog post completely inspired me on this topic! To visit Maria’s blog and view her brand new, Tiffany blue home office, click HERE!)
TIP #1: CHOOSE THE PERFECT DESK AND CHAIR
A desk is often the main focal point of an office. The chair is where you spend most of your time. Do not sacrifice form for function, but also make sure BOTH of these components are as beautiful as they are suitable. They will likely set the tone for the rest of the space.

TIP #2: DECK THE WALLS
Avoid blank walls that are boring and non-motivating! Fill them up with artwork you love, but make sure to not overdo it. Too many contrasting styles, sizes, and shapes can be distracting to the mind and eyes.

TIP #3: DON’T FORGET THE STORAGE
Nothing can clutter up an office faster than a lack of proper storage. Whether it is in the form of shelving, drawers, cabinets, or a combination of all three, choose what best suits your needs. At least one filing cabinet for organizing the inevitable paper accumulation is recommended. By keeping the clutter away, your office will be instantly more pleasing.

TIP #4: LIGHT IT UP!
Nobody wants to work in a dark, dreary space! So, even if you do not have natural light from a window, you can still choose fabulous lighting options to immediately brighten the room.
TIP #5: ADD INSPIRATION THROUGH PERSONALIZATION
What inspires and motivates you? If it is your family, add a photo or two of them in your office. If it is a memento of your goals or a special piece of art, incorporate it into your design! Find what motivates and inspires you, and place it in a prominent location that is clearly visible from your desk. Keeping these personal items in plain view will remind you of your goals throughout the day!

Personal mementos and photos can also be displayed in a more casual environment such as this cheerful bulletin board. Photo from Better Homes & Gardens.
