Many of you may remember that my New Years goals this year was to start practicing yoga…

I am very proud to share with you that I began a private yoga session with an amazing yoga teacher in the Myrtle Beach area, Susan Ward a few months ago.  We started out with a class together every Monday morning and I have enjoyed it so much and noticed such a difference in my body, mind and spirit that we increased to two days a week recently.  I suffer from two frozen shoulders and if any of you have been diagnosed with this or know someone who has, you know that it is extremely painful.  I have always made it a priority to find time for exercise in my life, whether it was going to the gym or taking an aerobics class.  I don’t know if it is how yoga is helping my shoulders or how yoga is helping my whole life, but it has been such a wonderful “fit” for me and I feel I am improving physically, personally and professionally because of my weekly classes.

Yoga is an amazing practice. And, that is exactly what it is! It’s a practice.  One that you keep showing up for over and over again, day after day.   It is teaching me to see life as a practice.  One that you also show up for day after day, giving it your all and doing the very best you can, but letting go of the result.  I wrote about this in my blog series about Flow.  I’ve noticed such a difference in how I “show up” for my family, my company and most importantly, myself.

Each day I try to take a “time out” for some yoga. Some days it is pulling my car down to a beach access and finding some quiet moments before I jump back into the hectic world of running a company.  Other days, especially when I can feel the weight of my life starting to show up physically in my body, I’ll take 15-20 minutes for some yoga practice either at the office or I’ll make it a point to go home and enjoy a nice lunch alone in my garden and then do some of the stretches Sue taught me to help my shoulders.

Do you practice yoga?  I would love to know what kind of yoga you find helpful in your own life! I have definitely learned that there are many different styles out there and a lot of it is just finding out what style fits you best, a lot like design! 🙂  As they say in yoga class, “See you on the mat!”

Here is a picture of my amazing teacher, Sue Ward doing something they call “Acro-Yoga!”  Not sure if I am ready for that just yet, but thanks to Sue and my yoga practice, I am trying new things all the time!

She makes hanging out upside look easy!
