It seems that the color purple is not one of those colors that most people are “lukewarm” about. Typically, they are either “all in” or “all out”. Many proponents of this powerful color began their love affair with it during childhood, often showcasing it on the walls of their first childhood bedroom or comforter.
Here is an example of a teenage girl's bedroom, perhaps similar to the one you recall from childhood? Photo from Best Home Gallery.
Although I cannot boast a lavender bedroom as a little girl, I have certainly developed an affinity for the color as a designer.
Below is a photo of one of my favorite bedrooms that I designed for an eco-friendly client of mine at Knotting Hill Interiors. As you can see, the color purple can be chic and sophisticated, even in a girl’s room!
Here is another example of a very muted, purple bedroom that conveys with a strong gray undertone, rather than in-your-face, screaming PURRRRRRRPLE!
However, there are many varying degrees of purple “pop”….
….. From soothing…..
….. To bold…..
….. TO DOWNRIGHT “WOW!”!
If you don’t yet have the courage to go all-out with the color, perhaps the best way to insert a little purple “punch” into your bedroom is to start with the accents. From comforters to toss pillows to furniture upholstery to florals, there are countless ways to work this fabulous color into your decor to add that touch of the “unexpected”.
