While I have shared that ANY color can become your neutral, from a trend point of view and what I saw at Market this year – Navy is the quintessential neutral. It is so hot right now and I am just tickled that I recently designed a family t.v. room in it.

The navy walls really act as the “neutral” for the room! We have so many other bright colors and patterns happening and navy is a perfect back drop!

Adorable as a color scheme for the kids bedroom or playroom! I really like the different pattern throw pillows on the bed as well. Just caught my eye and think it is so clever!

I LOVE entertaining. I love having house guests. I love “putting it on” for anyone that walks through my door and I have not done my job if they do not feel completely at home with all of their needs met during their stay at “The Griggs.” So, I am always looking for little ways to pamper and please my guests, as a good southern hostess would do.

Living the Fab Life - Accessories are Icing on the Cake!

I am equally as passionate about accessorizing myself as I am your home. The same sort of anxiety that wells up in my when I see an empty wall also shows up if I leave my house without my wrists, ears and neck feeling “dressed” and fabulous. If you know me personally, not a day (or a customer) goes by without hearing the faint jingle of my carefully, mindfully and purposefully placed bangles on both of my wrists. The secret to a full fab wrist is to have at least one meaningful bangle amongst your stylish creation. That might be a gift from your husband or a piece passed down from generation to generation. Or, it simply could by a “sursy* for me” that you absolutely deserved for being completely fabulous! You can find all sorts of bracelets and sparkly things at Knotting Hill Interiors store in our retail department, which has an extensive collection of jewelry to dress you up for a dinner party or a day at the beach, but wherever you go, if you see me there, I am not fully dressed without my “icing on the cake.”

Doesn’t matter what, when or wear – I am a Chanel girl, forever. Love these. So elegant and sophisticated!

These are not really “me” but I do love how they all look like pieces of tea cups. It feels very southern to me, like you could be wearing a piece of your grandmothers china. I could possibly do one of these paired with some elegant simple gold bangles. What do you think?

Color Crush - Pair it with Yellow

Crushing on YELLOW!

My current color crush is YELLOW. I am getting tired of blues and have been over aqua on it’s own for awhile now (but see below because paired with yellow, it’s a whole new game). That is just the way it goes in my designer world, though. I will always secretly love, love, love aqua as it is just a beautiful color, but for me, the past five years have been such an aqua phase that I am ready for something new. So for me, another soft color that I think I could grow to absolutely love working with is YELLOW. A soft buttery yellow is my favorite and I love it paired with taupe and drumroll please….AQUA (told you!). Quite pretty and also really quiet as a color scheme.

A bit more of a modern take on yellow and aqua. Love the walls!

When choosing a yellow, make sure not to go too happy. It is really sophisticated if you pair it with stark white and black. Too happy becomes cute and cute is not a look I admire.

Yellow is absolutely wonderful with gray and charcoal and really shines when paired with two other colors.

Try pairing yellow with at least two colors. Here Charcoal, Gray and a Canary Yellow bring a sophisticated look to this sitting area.

Elegance can be created with yellow and a very strong navy.

These two colors are just so sharp together! Love those lamps!

It’s a great look in the home and on you!

If you are thinking of yellow walls, I warn you with a word of caution. YELLOW is a hard color to get right. Tread carefully and ALWAYS paint a big color board or two before putting it on your walls. Sunlight does funny things to yellow. If has a bit of brown in it, then it turns gold. If it is not deep enough then it looks happy like a buttercup. If it has a hint of green in it, then it turns sharp. If it is too light then it looks creamy. Yellow is very reflective and that is one of the reasons it is hard to get right. I say, invite yellow into your life in another way.

Instead of a wall, think about putting a rich deep taupey-gray on a wall and then using yellow as fabrics and accents. Nothing is prettier than a pair of yellow lamps or a perfect pair of yellow pillows. Now that spells yellow success!!!!!!!

Ok, can’t deny it… HOT PINK might be my next Color Crush!

When I was at the grocery store this past week (with yellow on my mind…) I saw a box of them and it it brought back so many great memories of hot summer afternoons with my family. BONUS! South Carolina Interior Designer Creates Luxury Second Homes

As an interior designer based in Myrtle Beach, SC, often it is assumed that I always decorate with seashells and other beachy materials. While I have incorporated some versions of sophisticated coastal looks into my work, a place at the coast is much more than seashells and palm trees!

Definitely has that open and breezy beach “feel” but without what you might expect from a beach “look.” Whether it is your first home, second home or third home – it should always feel like HOME first!

Usually upon meeting a new sales representative, once they hear I am from Myrtle Beach, they immediately start talking to me about what seashells they offer in their line. I respond with the usual, “we are much more than just seashells, I would like to see the entire line, please”!

Who says a second home can’t have some style?

I just love creating a place on the coast and using blues and emeralds to tell the story of being on the water!

A comfy place to gather after long days on the beach. Note the art work on the walls, SHELLS! But, beautiful and elegant shells!

Now, if you are looking for a great coastal look where we do incorporate shells, then we do that, too…we call it “SEASHELLS DONE WELL”. I love using elements from the beach, I just like to do so in an elegant way.

In this spare guest room, I brought in some traditional “beach” elements, like palm trees and created an elegant feel with the canopies around the beds.
