THIS FABULOUS FRIDAY, I HAVE FOUND…

“It’s So Fabulous!” DESIGN ROOM of the Week: Since all of my blogs this week have been about three different design styles and their respective components, take a look at this room from Coastal Living. It seems to perfectly blend two of those particular styles together. Before you read the caption, see if you can guess which two they are and what elements represent each. POP QUIZ!

So, which 2 of the 3 styles do you think are blended together in this room? If you guessed cottage and contemporary, you were right! The natural elements throughout the space are a common thread for both styles, yet those elements are used differently to effectively represent each one. For instance, the chandelier has a contemporary feel to it, yet it is made of a comfortable, woven material that represents cottage style. The clean lines of the sofa, as well as the neutral background with pops of bright color are consistent with contemporary design. However, the casual, seagrass chest and crisp, white walls have "cottagy" warmth. The geometric artwork is more contemporary, yet the colors in the artwork are more in line with cottage design. It is truly a fabulous blend of two completely different design perspectives!

It’s So Fabulous!” FASHION TREND of the Week: Check out this runway photo from the Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 collection! Apparently 50’s inspired separates are hot on the fashion radar for this season. Although I’m not entirely sure I can see myself wearing this outfit, I am definitely drawn to the cross between “Sandra D” and “Jackie O” . And I love the gloves! Hmmmm…. I’m intrigued. What do you think?

It’s So Fabulous!” DESIGN BOOK of the Week: Another design book that I have in my personal collection is one written by Alessandra Branca called New Classic Interiors. I most enjoy her colorful Italian perspective on interior design and the way in which her heritage has heavily influenced her perspective. Her strong preferences and  clear direction are a fabulous inspiration. One of my favorite rooms in the book is an amazing tented playroom! You absolutely MUST see it! WOW!

“It’s So Fabulous!” RECIPE of the Week: Now, I realize that many of you were probably traumatized by the really… well, GROSS…. recipes of the 70’s and 80’s involving tofu. It was an ingredient added to any dish to “fill space”, and as I recall it, it often ended up being a disgusting mess. However, as a lifelong vegetarian,  I have come full circle with tofu, and I am happy to report that there are now some delicious new recipes that have given me a completely new perspective on this yummy treat! If you’re looking for some cuisine adventure this week, here’s one for you to try…

Tofu and Veggies in Peanut Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1 small head broccoli, chopped
  • 1 small red bell pepper, chopped
  • 5 fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 pound firm tofu, cubed
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons molasses
  • ground cayenne pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Saute broccoli, red bell pepper, mushrooms and tofu for 5 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl combine peanut butter, hot water, vinegar, soy sauce, molasses and cayenne pepper. Pour over vegetables and tofu. Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, or until vegetables are tender crisp.

“It’s So Fabulous!” QUOTE of the Week: Here is a quote I liked from Billy Baldwin…

“Be faithful to your own taste, because nothing you really like is ever out of style.”
