In this week’s blog series, I have been sharing ideas for customizing a home’s appearance. New houses can be lovely – and exciting! – but generally, the interiors are presented to the homeowner as a bland and neutral “box”. However, by concentrating on a few key areas, it is possible to quickly add warmth and personality to any home.
We have already learned about ways to customize doors, windows, trimwork, floors, and ceilings.  Walls are another area in which your own personal style can be translated into your home. In addition to traditional paint, there are also other available options to accomplish this goal.
1. WALLPAPER!
Although wallpaper may have fallen out of favor in the last decade, it is now making a comeback! Often, when I suggest wallpaper to my interior design clients, they bristle at the idea. They feel as if wallpapering will cause their space to be too “loud” or “busy”. Today, however, there are endless wallpaper options, many of which add subtle texture and movement, rather than definitive color.

2. CREATE AN ACCENT WALL!

To draw the eye to a particular area of a room, apply wallpaper to a single wall. In doing so, an accent wall is created, which adds instant customized appeal. Another notable benefit of only wallpapering one wall is the obvious cost-effectiveness of it. In addition, it is much simpler to change a single accent wall, rather than altering an entire room of wallpaper.
Stenciling an accent wall is another alternative to wallpapering. If you are willing to put in the time and patience to complete the project, stenciling is an extremely budget-friendly option!

3. COVER YOUR WALLS IN FABRIC.
A truly luxurious method for customizing your walls is to cover them in fabric! This fabulous alternative is making a giant comeback in the world of interior design. Covering walls in fabric instantly contributes a feeling of blissful opulence to any space.
Designer, Muriel Brandolini, covered the walls of this dining room (below) in a hand-embroidered bespoke silk from Vietnam.
