When it comes to my interior design clients, I pride myself on NOT having a “signature style”, but rather designing each space, individually, for each homeowner. However, there are some classic accessories that can often be found in my designs, simply because they add extra “fabulousness” to almost any decor!
#1 – TASSELS!
Tassels are not just for pillows or drapes! In fact, adding a tassel to a dresser pull or a lamp switch immediately adds an extra touch of customized elegance. Below are two examples from my Knotting Hill Interiors design photos.
#2 – BOOKS
Books are one of the most versatile accessories in interior design. They can be used to add volume to a display; as risers to balance the height of other accessories; or to create a sense of history or age in an arrangement. Books can stand alone, or they can be combined in countless ways with other accessories.

These books create the flow of this tablescape from high to low. Notice that they have also been "dressed up" by tying an elegant tassel around them!

This room has books everywhere! The books on the piano and on front table stand alone, whereas the books on the back table are used as a risers for other accessories.
#3 – PRESERVED GREENERY AND FLORALS
If you have a green thumb and the time and patience to manage living plants in your home, then they are always an excellent addition to any space! However, if, like many people, you are too sidetracked to keep up with the maintenance of living plants, another fabulous option is to add preserved plants or greenery. Stop by Knotting Hill Interiors to take a look at our huge selection of fabulous arrangements.

This client's home showcases two lovely topiaries on the mantel, as well as a several other preserved arrangements throughout the space.
#4 – TRAYS
Adding a tray underneath other accessories is a great way to add a sense of cohesiveness to an arrangement or tablescape. Trays come in all sizes, whether small enough to showcase only one accessory, or large enough to accommodate several.

This tiny, mirrored tray is topped with some decorative birds. Available for sale at Knotting Hill Interiors.
#5 – BLUE-AND-WHITE POTTERY
Most of my clients and regular readers probably already know that I am a HUGE fan of blue-and-white pottery! I consider it to be a “neutral” and use it frequently in many of my designs.
#6 – CANDLES
Candles are truly accessories that fit any decor. With so many beautiful designs and wonderful scents to choose from, there is always a candle perfectly suited for every space.

We alwayyyyysss have a candle burning at the shop. This is a photo of the one we were enjoying today!
#7 – CANDLESTICKS
Candlesticks are classic elements that work well in most design settings. I often use them to add height and elegance to a table arrangement.
#8 – PICTURE FRAMES
A picture frame with a photo is always an excellent way to add a personal touch to any design.

This photo was taken at my own home, and as you can see, I added personal photos to this chest in my foyer.
#9 – THROW PILLOWS
Throw pillows add a sense “comfort” to any space. For larger pillows, I always recommend the plushness of down inserts.

The throw pillows from this condo furnishings package show how much interest they can add to a space.
#10 – PEDESTALS WITH URNS
Pedestals with very large urns are a new design passion of mine! They are such a commanding presence in a room. The pedestal and urn pictured below are both from John-Richard.
