“It’s So Fabulous!” Book Find of the Week: 101 Things You Should Do Before Your Kids Leave Home, written by David Bordon & Tom Winters. This is a very touching little “idea book” of fun things to experience with your children, such as running through a sprinkler with your clothes on… flying over your house in a hot air balloon, etc. (My kids REALLY want to do the hot air balloon idea, but considering I am just now learning to fly again in an airplane, that particular item may not get accomplished?!) Regardless, this book was SO FABULOUS to read with my family, and I highly recommend it to everyone with school-aged children!
“It’s So Fabulous!” Design Find of the Week: As I was considering a design topic for today, I began to ponder damask. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE damask (Did I mention I love that stuff?!). Wikipedia defines damask as “a reversible figured fabric of silk, wool, linen, cotton, or synthetic fibers, with a pattern formed by weaving. Damasks are woven with one warp yarn and one weft yarn, usually with the pattern in warp-faced satin weave and the ground in weft-faced or sateen weave”. (Okay, so if that makes no sense to anyone, I would not be surprised?! I will be sure to show some photos that will help you better understand what in the world I am talking about).

My favorite damask patterns are overscaled, and I use them to provide texture in a room in a very elegant way. There are silk damasks for dressier looks, and cotton damasks, which are more casual. There are lots of damasks in between those, as well, and yes, damask also comes in the form of wallpaper, as well….A real favorite of mine! (I am currently pondering a tone-on-tone cream damask wallpaper for my own foyer.)

My middle initial is “d” and the girls at my shop actually call me “Kimberly Damask Grigg”. Well, to that note, I began to focus on damask as a design find for this week, and low and behold (I promise!), there sat a fabric book on the workroom floor with the name “Ostentatiously Chic”. Well, with a name like that, I could NOT resist picking it up off the floor, only to discover that it was chock full of some of the lovliest damask prints I have ever seen in my life?! The book is from a great “go-to” fabric company called Fabricut, and the fabrics from this company are always well-done, durable, beautiful, and affordable (the prices of these damask fabrics are only about $78 per yard, which in the fabric world – aside from “bolt” fabric – is not bad at all!) The names of the fabrics in this sample book are “ostentatiously and chicly” called: “Astounding”, “Breathtaking”, “Extraordinary”, “Marvelous” and “Sensational”. Now, with names and beautiful damask patterns like these, who could ever resist them!? They are FABULOUS, of course!

“It’s So Fabulous!” Fashion Find of the Week: As most of you already know, my staff and I attended the Atlanta Decorators’ Show House & Gardens a couple of weeks ago, and ever since we returned, I have been sharing tidbits and pictures of our experiences there. One thing that I did NOT expect to find in the showhouse was a FASHION FIND! However, that is exactly what happened! In the master bedroom closet of the house, I was surprised to meet the proprietor and creator of a custom shoe company called “Lady Jane”. And yes, I was speaking to Lady Jane herself! These shoes are made from a material manufactured by NASA, and their claim to fame is comfort and pain-free wear. Now, it’s true that there ARE shoes that are comfortable, but for the most part, they are not the most attractive shoes. Lady Jane had some sample shoes on display in the closet, and they were FABULOUS! I have not purchased any yet, but from simply trying on a pair of samples shoes, it was clear that this concept could quite possibly change my entire perspective on wearing high heels! At the time of this blog, the Lady Jane website did not appear to be functioning properly, but I am including a link to another website that carries her shoes on a limited basis… ORDER LADY JANE SHOES HERE .
