My Secret Weapons for Holiday Decorating: Part 3

Wrapping is an endless chore! However, once the task is complete, wrapped packages add excitement to the season and flair to your holiday décor.  My tree never feels quite complete or beautiful enough before my wrapped gifts are added. But honestly, who has the extra time to create mini-masterpieces of fluff and glamour for each [...]

Oh, Christmas Tree (Part 1): Toppers

Perhaps the most recognizable symbol of the “commercialized” holiday season is the Christmas tree! For many of us, Christmas trees evoke nostalgic memories of years gone by and are closely linked with all of the warmth and joy associated with the season.

A tree topper is like a glittering crown resting upon the coif of a [...]

  • Holy toledo! Those Southern Living pics are FAB! I only wish I had more time. I remember waaayyyyy back when I had a part-time design career and had all the time in the world to go over the moon and through the woods with christmas decor. Nowadays I am on to short, simple and stupid because I have no time! haha

Hi Caroline. I went back and checked online, and to be honest, I can ‘t find this photo on Southern Living OR Cottage Living. So, I am not really certain where it originated. I also checked other blogs that have this photo shown, and they are all divided, as well. Some of them list it as being from Southern Living, some from Home Ideas, and some from Cottage Living. So, in answer to your question, I don’t know. Sorry that I can’t be more informative. My Best, Kimberly Grigg

What I Learned about Design from My Horse (Part 5 - FINAL)

Grayanna and Macaroni

With two years of competition riding under her belt, my youngest daughter, Grayanna, and her sidekick, Macaroni the Pony, have earned over 350 ribbons.

Our home is gracious enough, but the children’s rooms are quite small and their closets tiny. I am committed to being a clutter buster, but I am easily overwhelmed [...]

  • Wow, that’s a lot of ribbons ! Maybe she could display the prettiest ones (the ones that match her room) :) and put the rest in a scrapbook. She can include photos and journal about each ribbon. My son is a 2nd degree black belt, he just filled up one rack. Time to start a second one !

Well, that’s a great idea! Love the thought of her journaling about each one! Thanks, Tammy! FABULOUS! How old is your son? What kind of tack did you display his belts in? And how?

My motto is “There’s always a way!” so I enjoyed contemplating possible solutions to this dilemma. To display the ribbons, what about a wall- or floor-mounted display panel unit with each panel lined with one of the actual fabrics used in Grayanna’s room? The unit could even be mounted on the inside of a closet door! If the unit is to be visible in the room, the front panel, the one people would see, could have another kind of display (not ribbons)that fits the color and spirit of the room. She and her friends could flip through the panels to look at the ribbons without having them “front and center” all the time. Someone could even custom make such a display unit.

Summer! Aren’t you the FABULOUS one!? WOW! Thanks so much for the brilliant suggestion. Well done! I may need to post the final product, when I get it all completed! You’re the best!

Hello Dunes Decorating Diva – Anna is a super rider! How about a glass display table or acrylic block on the side board or table – you could place cups, ribbons and what nots in a protected display – friends could even put their feet up on the table while they spy the champs preciously protected events- that way if there is a bad boy or beer in the room you will not worry!
This is the Dunes delightful Diva here

Great ideas! We may end up with so many ribbons that we can use more than one of the display ideas that have been suggested! Thank you, Dunes Delightful Diva!

As a fellow equestrian, I love these! The ribbon box (scroll to the bottom of the page; center photo). Elegant, classy, and the structure takes a little of the high-end tack trunk look from the barn to the bedroom. http://www.mcguinnfarms.com/office_p1.html#
