Ceilings are an important part of a room’s design.
I consider ceilings a valuable design element of the room. In fact, without treating the ceiling, I feel that a room often looks incomplete. The size of your ceiling is the same size as your floor, and while we fret over what materials to use for the [...]
Another of the “signature” items that I love to design are bed canopies! They are typically custom-created for my clients based upon the “look” they are trying to achieve.
Bed canopies always add a touch of elegance to a room, but depending upon the fabric selection and configuration, they may also emphasize a feeling of romance, [...]

Hi, Kimberly. I’m back from my “Fab 50 B’Day”, so I guess you could say I am now OLDER and WISER (well, hopefully!). We had a great time with family and friends and of course…everyone enjoyed the PINK! I’ll see if pics turn out good enough to pass along. If I use “contact” email in your website, will that reach YOU? Just wondered as I could then share some info that you had asked me about. Just let me know! Loved the posts and pictures on bed canopies (sadly though, I don’t use them much at all around here) and the throws. I also love to throw in that extra punch of “softness” and color with these. They do indeed add such a nice touch to the room. My very favorite part of interior design is custom window treatments….I simply LOVE them (every aspect of it!) Oh, BTW, I will indeed go back and read your bikini blogging as you mentioned….I’m sure I’ll love it. Have a “fabulous” evening!
So happy to hear that your “Fab 50 Birthday” was a raving success! And OF COURSE the pink was fabulous…. how could it not be, right?! Thanks so much for reading along with my blog. I agree with you that custom window treatments are amazing! I look forward to reading your email. If I don’t respond before, I will reply when I return to town after the weekend. Have a FABULOUS holiday!
When designing a space for a child, it is so critical to consider their perspective and “likes”. However, this can often be quite a daunting task, considering that more often than not, the parents have a TOTALLY different idea in mind for their child’s room. (If I ever thought pleasing a husband and wife was [...]

Oh Kimberly, I don’t even know where to start ! They need to change her middle name to “Lucky”. The hand painted fabric is FABULOUS, the bedding, the bedside table is so unique. I want that leopard carpet in my playroom, well my workroom ! You are so talented, I’m sure she loves it.
Tammy, you are soooo wonderful! Thank you for the complients! I am in love with this room, too, and I agree with you that this precious little girl could be renamed “Lucky”. HA! (You are too funny!) Her room is one of my favorite children’s spaces that I have designed. It was sooooo much fun! I loved being able to have free reign to truly customize every detail to her taste. She was a fabulous little client!
I love the painted secretary! Are there businesses that specialize in repainting furniture? Is it rolled/spray painted? Just wondering in case I happen upon such a wonderful piece.
p.s. love your beautiful room designs & your down to earth blog-thanks so much!
Most designers have a painter that they rely on. In cases like these, I just have “my painter” paint an item. He typically sprays a furniture piece after priming it. Occasionally, my “faux finisher” will add touches, as well. This piece was primed and sprayed with a professional paint sprayer. I am so glad you love it. I do, too. This technique breathes life into things that are old. Good luck with your project!
You know what they say… “When the cat is away, the mice will play…” Well, this week, our “cat”, a.k.a our boss, Kimberly, is away at the High Point Furniture Market! Knowing that she would not have the time to do her usual blogging, I, one of her more mischievous employees, decided to take it [...]
I am not sure which “child” wrote this, but I love it! I could picture every scenerio in my head and laugh! All of those examples are exactly why I love Knotting Hill. It is the humor that makes it such a warm, unique and endearing place. Not to mention the “fabulous” designing you all do! Have a GREAT day!
Terri, thanks so much for your sweet and wonderful comment! We do tend to have a whole heck of a lot of “chaotic fun” around this place with our looney toon crew. Love having people like you involved in the laughter and craziness… you make our Knotting Hill “family” complete! And as for my ornery “child”, she has not confessed to her transgressions yet, but soon…. verrrrryyyyy soon! She shall not escape my wrath! haha.
My husband is a leprechaun! Born on St. Patties Day, my family has a true field day in honor of my husband’s birthday. Bring out the leprechauns, the four leaf clovers, the corn beef and cabbage, and of course, the color of green and it is a celebration to go “green with envy” over. Oddly [...]
I’m a contractor by week day and also DIYer by weekend. I’m gonna learn woodworking project for my Do-it-yourself venture and discovered your website is beneficial. I love power tools as I published my very own review relating to cordless drill here http://bestcordlessdrillreview.net/
Any helpful hints what the most important piece of equipment for easy woodworking project? Obviously I already have some cordless tools, as you can tell on my site.
Please help! My daughter just loves this picture (link below) of a bedroom she found on your blog. I am having a tough time matching the green color on the walls. Do you happen to know what color it is? I would be ever so grateful for your help!
