We can help you with all of your design needs from the ground up. Literally.
In fact, bringing your interior designer into the loop before you sign off on those floor plans is one of the best ideas I have ever heard! It can really set EVERYONE up for success – you and your family, your contractor and your designer. When everyone is working together they are getting on the same page, on your page. And well, when have you ever seen a designer on a construction site with a hammer and a hard hat looking so fabulous!
I personally realized this first hand when I called on my own design team to support me with my complete home remodel! Read my blog post here.
If you have decided to build your home, first of all, congratulations! You have an opportunity to create unique elements in your home that really put your fingerprint on it. But, the problem that I often run into with my clients is that they have an idea in their head but don’t know quite how to articulate it. I am going to be there when your contractor is long gone. I will be there hanging the last piece of art on the wall or putting the final touches on your formal dining room table scape – all of which can be considered when laying out the floor plans for your new home. When you try to explain this to your contractor, they may be thinking in terms of what size each room needs to be or where to run electric or water. I will come into the picture as a bridge builder, one who speaks both the language of design and also understands from a construction perspective (my husband is a real estate developer and I have worked with him on many a building site!) how to communicate with your contractor. It is a win/win! And, I will even let you borrow my pink hard hat!
For those of you that may not be turning the entire site of your future home into a construction zone, perhaps you are remodeling one or two rooms in your current home. This can pose all sorts of it’s own obstacles, especially when you are still living in the home with your family. I helped one of my clients through a full kitchen remodel and it was so obvious to me with this particular project that even small mistakes when putting together floor plans can not only be a disappointment in the design department, but also cost you more money in the long run!
To prevent obstacles and begin the creative process right from start, definitely bring your designer into the fold! Are you building the home of your dreams? I would love to help you feel confident that every nail hammered in and every screw drilled will serve the purpose of building a foundation for your home but also creating a space you will love to live in for years to come.
For your very own fabulous construction site gear, check out this great website I found called “Charm and Hammer!”
If you have not gotten your tickets for the tour yet, be sure to stop by Knotting Hill or you can visit the Art Museums website here. And of course, be sure to come by the store after the tour and lunch at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club to share in a little bubbly with us!
Each spring, the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Museum’s Tour of Homes offers a look at some of the most glamorous and uniquely decorated homes in the Myrtle Beach area, while serving as the Museum’s major fundraiser. The 13th Annual Spring Tour of Homes is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 10am – 4pm.
13 years ago when our local museum was in need of finding creative ways to raise funds for their operations I decided to put my house on the market. Well, not literally on the market of course, but I thought what a wonderful experience it would be to create a “tour of homes” for the community to come together and have the opportunity to visit some of the areas most interesting and beautiful homes… all for a good cause! My house was the first stop on the tour and 13 years later my home is back on tour with a fresh new look and whole new color palate.
When you visit my home on the tour, don’t forget to look up!
I am also extremely honored to have one of the homes I designed on the tour as well. The fabulous Kathy Drake came to Knotting Hill Interiors with her husband, Jay Harper, 14 year old daughter, Abbie and new baby boy, Trace. Their home is not to be missed with unusual color schemes of purples, greens and grays.
Just a sneak peak at the home I designed that is on tour! You have to come visit to see the rest!
There are eight amazing homes on the tour and the day concludes with a fantastic lunch at The Dunes Club! For more information on how to get tickets or to learn about the Burroughs and Chapin Art Museum visit their website.
Does your community do something similar for a good cause? I would love to hear about it!
If you live in Myrtle Beach, I hope to see you! Please stop by my house and let me know you saw it on “It’s So Fabulous!”
Over the course of a designers career, there are always a few homes that will simply stand out in their minds. Homes that perhaps pushed through the barriers of their own creativity and elevated them to a new level of confidence in their ideas. For me, the Callihan home is front and center in my mind. This complete renovation project had me right at “blue and white”, which was Lynn Callihans’ extraordinarily impressible collection of blue and white Mottahedeh china I had ever seen. Considering my own collection and well, let’s admit it, fetish with blue and white porcelain, seeing Lynn’s love for these family heirlooms and also her desire to incorporate it into the design of her home was an immediate sign from above that this was indeed a match made in heaven.
What I love even more than blue and white china is when a home designed by myself and my fabulous team at Knotting Hill Interiors is recognized by the design community at large. Of course, it is an honor for my business. At Knotting Hill Interiors we breathe style and it is always nice to be noticed by your peers. But, also for the families who trusted me with their vision and worked together with my team from start to finish to create the space they call “home”, it is extra special for them to see images of their home gracing the pages of magazines and websites! What is even more special about the “Callihan Home” (as it has now come to be called!) is the timelessness of this project. The images continue to strike a chord in peoples hearts, which tells me that there was more than fabric, wallpaper and even blue and white china going on here. Design Journal Magazine and Houzz.com both shared amazing articles that really tell the story behind the vision and inspiration for the project, and also give Lynn and James Callihan full credit for teaming up with Knotting Hill Interiors to turn their dreams into a reality. I don’t think I will ever stop thanking them for trusting me with their beautiful home. Thank you! Below are just a few of my favorite images of the renovation as well as a link to my website to see more of this finished product!
Probably the most shared image from the entire project as you get a feel for the parisian design and you can see the Mottahedeh china, two of the main centerpieces for inspiration in the home.
I love images that highlight the details of a design project. You better bet that we are always crossing our t’s and dotting our i’s!
No matter what age you are – every woman deserves to feel like a princess and be treated like a queen!
Another perspective in the main bedroom, bath and sitting area. I think I would just want to live in here! What do you think?
Adore, Adore, Adore! French elegance that you can live in!
Stunning Kimberly..
I share your excitement… When a renovation you and your clients feel so good about can be loved and shared with the world.
Thank you for sharing this home…
Shelley,
Thank you for your kind comment. That is what it is all about really isn’t it? If my clients feel good about the homes they live in, then naturally they will want to share. Have a fabulous day! xo ~Kimberly
Kimberly, what’s so amazing to me is how EMBRACING the spaces are, even though they are LUXURIOUS to the max! I’m in awe of the way you can pull this off! The photos on the Design Journal Magazine site tell the whole story and feature more amazing photos. Looking at these photos was like a Calgon “take me a way” moment. I feel refreshed and ready to get back to work!
Thank you so much, Summer! It means so much to feel “connected” in your work! The beauty of the “luxury” again, is that it is totally livable! That is KEY! Have a wonderful day! xo ~ Kimberly
Love is in the air. I just adore watching my store, Knotting Hill Interiors, come alive during each season and holiday of the year – but Valentines Day is especially fun. Men by the truckloads come in to find their wives/girlfriends or that special someone the perfect gift – and you know we have it! Oh, watching these guys come in the store (especially if they have never been in before) is a real treat. I like to say that Knotting Hill Interiors is a “one stop shop” for ALL things a girl could need! The one exception – fresh flowers, but you know we probably have a suggestion for those, too.
There are so many great designers out there blogging about this month of L-O-V-E, DIY, how-to’s and suggestions to give your home a little romantic facelift for your partner or spouse or cute crafts for kids and home made Valentines for school friends. Here are some of my top picks to find some inspiration this season.
Belle Maison wins the awards for DIY home made Valentines and creative ways to say “I love you.” Valentines Day crafts.
OMG! How absolutely darling are these home made Valentines! Perfect for an Saturday night tween sleepover project!
Loving this new blog, The Poor Sophisticate, and her brilliant blog post about putting together a Valentines Day table scape. This is a lovely way to get in the spirit of the season and make a statement to your guests!
Steering away from the traditional red and pink, I just love the fun and whimsical look of this table scape! And the best thing – these dishes can be used other times of the year as well! A few rose petals, a personal touch and viola!
If there was a wreath I could hang on my door for every day of the year, I think I would have to build a special closet for them – one for each day of the week and also for every part of my personality! Hanging a wreath on your door is a special way to make your home inviting to strangers passing by that might never step through your door. This really cool site, Babble, had some super fun and really different DIY wreaths to show let the whole neighborhood know that you believe in love!
How fun, colorful and different is this!! Would be such a nice surprise to make a small one and hang on your daughters door when she got home from school as well!
Last but certainly not least, one of my design heroes, Tobi Fairley has taken not just the 14th of February to show some love – but she has dedicated the entire month to sharing something she loves each day. Not only is Tobi an amazing designer and inspiration – she also has great taste so be sure to check out her blog to find some wonderful new products and ideas.
LOVE begins with YOU! Amen, Tobi!
As for me – what do I love? I love connecting with each and every one of you on this great big journey of love called life!
What do you do to get inspired for Valentines Day? Share your ideas and leave me a comment!
Nice construction hat!
Haha! Thank you, Ron!
