What kind of role does color play in creating a specific mood or tone in a room?  Well, EVERYTHING!  Color is an amazing way to express yourself and a fabulous place to start when I begin working with a client.  Finding out what colors moves the you and how certain colors makes you feel is a doorway into your world for me.  Whether your favorite colors are going to play a leading role in the creation of your room and/or home or how intelligently placed accents of color will tell your story, color has emotional and psychological roots and actually says a lot more about who you really are then meets the eye.

Beautiful Blue

Blue is the the color of the sky and ocean.  A pure blue is the color of inspiration, sincerity and spirituality. Blue is the calming color. Dark blue is the color of truth and moderation. Blue is also described as the color of friendship, which may be why I see it over and over again in my dining rooms, a place for social gatherings and breaking bread with those you love. I also see a lot of blues in the master bedroom, sometimes bordering on blue/grey or blue/green as it also represents sleep and twilight. I find that my clients that grativate toward seeing “blue” in their future value friendship, truth, rest, family and also love to entertain!

Yellow is the Happiest Color

Yellow is the lightest hue of the spectrum. It has the ability to uplift and illuminate any room bringing an aura of cheerfulness, happiness and fun. My clients who are drawn to yellow, I also find are very creative and inquisitive about life in general. I know I can have fun with a client who loves yellow as they are open to new ideas and new ways of doing things. I can really get creative and bring to the table a vision for how I envision them living in a space that sings the song of their personality.  Yellow is the best color to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism.

Pretty in Pink

The meaning of the color pink is unconditional love and nurturing, which is why we see it in so many baby girls nurseries! I also like to bring an element of pink into the master bath of the “lady of the house.”  It’s non-threatening guise seeks appreciation, respect and admiration. It doesn’t like to be taken for granted and just loves to hear the words ‘thank you’ (sound familiar ladies?). Combining pink with other darker colors such as dark blue, dark green, black or gray, adds strength and sophistication.

Gorgeous Gold

The color gold is associated with abundance and prosperity, luxury and quality, prestige and sophistication, value and elegance. Typically, this would not be the color to do your family room or even bedroom, but I have incorporated gold into many a master bath and look to accent a room with gold when I find that these traits and values are important to my client.  Gold is also generous and giving, compassionate and loving, the benefactor or patron, sharing its wisdom, knowledge and wealth with others.  When I am working with a client who can see them self living within elements of the color gold, I know they are confident with the attention life has drawn to them.  Gold helps to reflect that deep understanding of themselves back to them, a reminder to shine brightly.

Green is the color of balance, harmony and growth. It could be safe to say that a little green should be found in every home. It is the sanctuary away from the stresses of modern living, restoring us back to a sense of well being. This is why there is so much of this relaxing color on the earth, and why we need to keep it that way. The color green is an emotionally positive color, giving us the ability to love and nurture ourselves and others unconditionally. Green promotes a love of nature, and a love of family, friends, pets and the home. It is the color of the garden lover, the home lover and the good host.

While there are so many elements of what makes a beautifully designed room, color helps me to create an immediate connection with the families and individuals I work with.
