I can go into any home and create an amazing aesthetic – but it does not become truly YOURS until it is personal. The best part of my job is connecting with my clients and finding out a beautiful piece of their family history or a collection that has been passed down from generation to generation that we can weave throughout the design. Home is where the heart is, right? So lets get to it and here are my top three ways to personalize, or put some heart, into your space.
1. Identify something that matters to you and all other members of your family. Perhaps you all love boating. Can you think of ways to incorporate that love into some aspect of your design? How about in your artwork? In my case, I had a French Garden painted onto the walls in my foyer. Now as I walk into my home, I have a reminder (as does my family) of a special place to all of us. In addition, mine is further personalized with a family tree where a leaf is named for each member of our family!
2. Start a meaningful collection and display it cleverly.
3. Pick at least one item in each room that you absolutely love and adore. Perhaps it is an antique secretary or hutch. Perhaps it is that fabulous $200 dollar a yard fabric that you wisely chose to put on a pillow. Maybe it’s a stunning piece of art. Just make sure it moves you and your home will be a more personal representation.
