One of the most important things I do when consulting with a potential client is to get a feel of how they “live.” No matter how posh, proper or over the top we may need to go to achieve a desired look for a room, bringing in the element of “liveability” is always at the core of my design. While breathtaking beauty, timeless elegance, innovation and value comprise the foundation for every single project I do, I also know what it feel like to be running one child to football, planning dinner, cleaning up from dinner the night before and somewhere in there have time for a “calgon take me away” moment. Below are a few of my most favorite “livable” rooms. I hope you enjoy them!

This is a must for any mom-on-the-go! I LOVE having the opportunity to combine organization with design. These cork padded cabinets double as storage and placed to tack notes, you child’s latest artwork from school and the basketball schedule. When design can actually help a family communicate better, save time, save space, etc – now that is what I call: Fabulous Meets Functional!
Ahh, the kitchen. The place we spend the most time in (besides our beds!). By proxy, kitchens are liveable and functional. They have to be! What I LOVE most about this kitchen is, well… you can probably guess. Did you see that custom metal work as a back splash for the stove? Gah! Talk about innovative! We really wanted to create something dramatic in this space besides the the chandelier of pots and pans.

Here is a luxury apartment I designed for my son. Smaller spaces need to be liveable in every nook and cranny! This bachelor pad almost looks like one big room, which makes it feel a lot bigger than it is. Keeping things enclosed, like the entertainment armoire, also helps makes rooms be multi-functional.

I love this room. Some of the dining rooms I have designed might appear intimitating to some, but here you have a charmingly elegant space that is very welcoming. The comfy chairs are just begging for you to have seconds!

You know I had to save the best for last! This is one of my most favorite designs EVER for one of my most favorite friends. At the end of the day, being a mom herself, she needed a beautiful place to escape. Her “calgon, take me away moment” right here in her beautiful bathroom.
I hope you enjoyed browing through some of Knotting Hill Interiors most liveable spaces!

Great post! I’m about to decorate my son’s first “real” (but very small)apartment (not the university, semi-furnished kind of apartment, but the empty kind where every stick of furniture, accessory, rug, etc. will have to be decided on & placed by him and me). I’m excited to get started and hope that his will look as beautiful, grown up, upscale, and liveable as your son’s home.
Karen! I am sure that your son’s room is going to be fabulous! Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have! Kimberly@knottinghillinteriors.com.
