Before and After Interior Designs Part Three: A Total Dining Room Makeover

This room started with an inspiration that was a first for me.

Never before have I used a china collection as an inspiration for a room, but in this case, it became the inspiration for the whole house. This client’s mother had willed to her the most massive collection of Montaheddah Blue and White “Canton” china that I have ever seen. I knew that it had to be an important part of this home, so I used it as inspiration!

This dining room was right off the foyer and a very important part of the space as it is open to the entire home. We added beautiful “Pettitson” molding throughout the space. My artist friend used a faux “strie” finish (seven layers!) on everthing including the new molding. Once we got “the bones” right, we were ready for the furnishings and accessories.

The dining table was found in Italy and shipped in (we waited 8 months for its arrival!). The chairs are upholstered in two fabrics with a lovely custom “signature” monogram on each. Notice the incorporation of the china as accessories and art. This elegant dining room is one stately setting for many occasions!

I am often invited into this home socially. I love the feel of this room each and every time I visit. While it might be a little fancy for some, it truly suits the style of the homeowners who love to entertain. The monochromatic color scheme of “shades of blue” allow for a tranquil setting that is perfect for any occasion.

Now go have an “It’s So Fabulous” day!
