My Secret Weapons for Holiday Decorating: Part 1

Last year I choked for the holidays!  I was very busy, so I thought it would be okay to “cheat” just a bit on my holiday décor.  I opted for a faux tree – And WOW! – was I disappointed!  Sorry, guys – Some of you may “boo” me for saying this! EEK! -But I [...]

  • I agree 100%. I’m a “real” tree kind of girl, too! Nothing beats how wonderful it makes my home smell. The only down side to me is that the tree can’t be enjoyed as long as an artificial one, because mine just starts to dry out after about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. Some, for example, put their trees up the day after Thanksgiving Day. Well I’d love to do this, because it takes me about 2-3 days to get the tree fully dressed. However, I don’t think my real tree would last this long. I’ve tried all the suggestions (such as adding Sprite to the water, checking and adding fresh water as needed, even the store bought product to extend tree life). If anyone has any other suggestions, I’d love to try some of them. Thanks for this great post, Kimberly.

  • Thanks, Kimberly–I need all the shortcuts you have in your repetoire! Christmas really gets away with me.

I am an artist and designer enthusiast. Do you have any tips or (Maybe even a new video on this be great) for hallway designs. Thanks.

  • Constance Engels

I am looking for different photo examples of using ribbon to hang pictures in my dining room for the holidays. I have three Norman Rockwell prints in golden frames that I would like to showcase on one wall next to one another. Can you help?

Enjoyed this guest blog. I was pleasantly surprised to see the gray kitchen that has been seen on many blog sites, and is the kitchen of a designer named Sally Wheat….I loved it so much, I had my kitchen cabinets painted the exact same color….which is so beautiful in any light. I painted my island high gloss black. I love it too! As much as I do love gray….my house has always been gray, and now I am looking for a new color to paint it….anything but gray this time!

  • gorgeous photos! It does seem like grey looks great paired with any other color!

Interior Design: My Balancing Act with Lamps

Lamps are some of my very favorite elements in almost every space I design! Their charming appeal creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that overhead lighting simply cannot duplicate. Although chandeliers and lamps both provide necessary light and beautify spaces, they also each serve different purposes (in terms of interior design, that is!).

Lamps often do [...]
