MY TOP FIVE LIST OF ASYMMETRICAL COFFEE TABLE ELEMENTS

Although there are many ways to decorate a coffee table, asymmetrical designs are among my very favorites! I love the way asymmetry – when properly styled! – can create a  fabulously “balanced imbalance”!

Take a look at a few of my own featured design photos (below) from my clients at Knotting Hill Interiors. In those pictures, you will notice items from my TOP FIVE LIST OF ASYMMETRICAL COFFEE TABLE ELEMENTS:

#1: HEIGHT

To create asymmetry, start with something tall and work your way down to something low. The height should make your eye feel as if it is  easily floating down a set of stairs. Remember that you shouldn’t make your “steps” too tall, or you won’t end up with a smooth flow. Be sure your coffee table is long enough to comfortably make the  transition from high to low.

#2: SOMETHING ROUND

I love to add “softness” to my asymmetrical coffee table designs by including something round in each one.

#3: BOOKS

Books are such versatile elements, because they can fill any height requirement! Books may be included in your design as a stack, as risers, or simply as objects of beauty.

#4: “LIFE” OR “LIGHT”

In almost all of my coffee table designs, I purposely incorporate either candles or florals/greenery. I love adding the “sparkle” of candlelight, or the freshness of  living plants and flowers.

#5: TRAY

A tray can help define a specific space for a grouping of coffee table objects and/or provide a sense of organization.
