Interior Design: Ideas for a Great Dining Room (Part 1) - ROUND TABLES

Whenever a space allows, one of my favorite dining room components to incorporate for my interior design clients is a round table. In fact, I actually have a round table in my own dining room, and it truly is the anchor of the space!  But I love my round table for more than aesthetic reasons. Actually, the reason I love it most is because it allows me to feel connected with everyone seated at the table. All of the diners are able to easily converse and see one another.  As you may have experienced, that task can often be quite daunting at a longer table. Of course, not every space has the correct dimensions to easily accommodate a round table. My dining room happens to be square, which provides the easiest scenario for accommodating a round table. (However, on the flip side, my room’s square dimensions have made it extremely difficult to find a rug that works!)  Whatever your dining room’s shape and size, a good interior designer can help you evaluate all of your possibilities and decide on the best option.

And in case you were wondering… Yes, a round table CAN accommodate just as many diners as a rectangular or oval table.  Mine seats up to fourteen!

Below are a few photos of round dining tables for you to enjoy. What do YOU think about them? Would you like to have a round table in YOUR dining room? Why or why not? Leave me a comment with your thoughts and ideas!

  • Great post and coming from someone that has had a round dining table for 15 years I am DONE DONE DONE! You can’t do anything cool down the middle in terms of decorating and tablescapes, there is nothing you can do but plop something in the middle of the table!! I have coveted all these rectangular dining tables for years because of the endless ways you can decorate them for dinner parties, special occasions, etc. So I vote Nay!!

Hmmm.. that’s a good yay or nay post, I should do one (and I’ll link to this, beautiful rooms).

  • Excellent method of describing, and enjoyable piece of writing to take data regarding my presentation subject, which I am going to deliver soon in my school.

  • As a professional home decorator I must say I found this to be an excellent and very useful article. Looking forward to reading more.

I couldn’t agree more. This is indeed an excellent article! However, the round table photos are even better and my favorite designs are the glass topped models. It would certainly be a delight to furnish my living room with one of those!
