According to the Trend Alert article in the December/January issue of Elle Decor, “This attention-getting color [red] is heating up the runway – and the home!”….. And just in time to celebrate our most amorous holiday of the year, Valentine’s Day!
Subconsciously, color affects our moods and energy levels, with red being the most powerful color of all! Red has been scientifically proven to increase our heart rates and respiration, as well as excitement levels. Therefore, correctly incorporating red into specific rooms, with specific purpose, can greatly enhance the function and beauty of a space.
For instance, the dining room is a popular place to incorporate red, since this color has been shown to increase appetite. Even restaurants use this technique to keep their patrons ordering as much food as possible! Eat-in kitchens are also another great place to add red to your color palette.

Adding red in bedrooms can be tricky, since lighter shades have been shown to increase passion, whereas darker shades simply keep you awake at night. In other words, selecting the right shade of red is as critical as choosing the overall color itself. In order to avoid this pitfall, many people opt for simpler accents of red.

Thanks for these lovely inspirations! I prefer red as an accent as it’s a very strong color, unless I’m going for a daring look. I will say I’ll make an exception for that red patterned wallpaper from Elle Decor though!
