“The sky is the limit” when it comes to interior design! One popular color found in modern luxury interior design is GRAY! Although many people perceive gray to be dreary like the color of an overcast sky (and it certainly CAN be!), it can actually be quite a lovely neutral that is the perfect background for a rainbow of lively colors!
Below are a couple of photos of a space I designed for some Myrtle Beach interior design clients. The walls are all a beautiful, soothing gray with accents of navy blue and chartreuse throughout.
Gray skies are always glorious with a pop of cheery yellow sunshine peeking through! Photos below from
House Beautiful.
Interior designer and author,
Jeffrey Bilhuber (Photos from
House Beautiful), has the same idea of blending navy with gray…. an old classic reinvented with a fresh twist…
Other bright colors, such as pink, bright orange, and lavender also look FABULOUS against a neutral gray background…

Sometimes, gray can be so elegant as to stand alone, as is the case in the home of fashion designer, Monique Lhuillier, shown below in Elle Decor magazine.

So, perhaps the next time you look up and see gray skies, you will think less of the word “dreary” and more of the word “elegant”! Which is your favorite gray room? Drop me a comment and let me know!

You did a beautiful job on that house and the architecture is amazing. I would love to see a pic of the blue cornice or is it an awning ?
It is an arched window. We followed the arch with an arch cornice design. It was very complicated, and in hindsight, it was the hardest window treatment I have ever designed! Whew!
